tips for multi-racial settlements

Hi all, new to the game and getting stuck managing this part.

I have a human city that im trying to introduce other races to for specialized work.

There's a stone/gem/iron patch to the north of the city, so i figured i would make a dondorian settlement since they prefer mountain houses. All of my dondorian immigrants moved into my human settlement to work at the carpentry station, while homeless humans worked in the mines. I moved my carpentry up to the mountain settlement, and while the dondorians started to move in to work at the carpentry, the humans were still working in the mines. Even when I'm setting dondorian preference to work in stone mines high, its mostly still humans working there, who are all annoyed that they are living in the dondorian village.

Over all i feel like im doing this wrong. If i move carpenters up to the mines so dondoirans live there, then its far away from my wood cutters. If I make woodcutters nearby, my human majority goes up to the woodcutters to work, and then theyre upset that they live in the dondorian town. Cretorian seems to live anywhere because they like working at markets, but theyre upset because they arent living in the round cretorian settlement i made for them.

How are you all managing keeping races near their industry?
