Why does Gemini now say, "I can't edit images for you yet."?

I have generated and edited many images over time, but today Gemini says, "Sorry, I can't edit images for you yet. Can I generate an image instead, or help with something else?"

As an example and test, I just generated a close-up of a daisy in a meadow. No problem. When I respond, "Put a cricket on the daisy," I get "Sorry, I can't edit images for you yet. Can I generate an image instead, or help with something else?"

This happens over and over. Any ideas? Thank you.
