Help

So my clutch lever snapped completely on my bike… basically leaving me stranded. I tried using the actual clutch switch by pushing it in to start but it wouldn’t even crank but when the clutch switch wasn’t pushed in it would try to crank but wouldn’t start… I managed to get it going by getting a push start and got it home, have the replacement lever ordered now but I just want to know is that normal to happen to gixxers ? I just didn’t think it couldn’t crank without the clutch pulled in but it tried so is that an issue related to the fact my clutch lever is completely gone ? Thanks in advance
