Thoughts on Joshua Kyan Aalampour (thoughtful responses please)
I have looked through a lot of his things and came to a conclusion. Love to hear any constructive, logical (i belive in you reddit), feedback
Here are my thoughts:
-He has a style for sure and the ego of a r/art reddit mod, but I guess it helps with social media where everything is exaggerated / performed
-His music is not bad-his melodies are nice and its dramatic (appeals to general audience). They are also not revolutionary-I have seen so many other youtubers write as good/better (Animenz for arrangements and Hayato Sumono). In terms of overall writing/arrangements it just feels like "beethoven virus" - some theme (whether from classical or meant to imitate it) along with octaves arpeggios and circle of fiths
- Technique is fine, I havent seen him play an unaltered classical piece though
-------------
- Art: Looks good, not to familiar with it
-----------
- Now onto his papers... He writes like a student who is trying to impress the Harvard admissions department which makes everything as hard to read as human possible

On the Beauty of Contradiction in Christ: I read the whole thing and the argument boils down into:
Disregarding how true, the contradictions in chrisitianity have lead to many beautiful things
True -> there is an all powerufl being who cares about us
False -> Many pieces of art and sciecne came from chrisitianity
Besides seeming pretty common sense after taking it apart, the whole thing is flawed. The paper makes it seem like contradition has caused beauity while in reality the chaples came from those who were touched by the story of teh gospel, no the contradiction itself.
Also, in Section III. Anithesis: he basically says that without God, there is no meaning yet people still make meaning through storying and this is beautiful. but A. he assumes that christianity is the only explanation for meaning, B. people wanting meaning in a world without meaning is a contradiction but in reality it just common sense -- we love to feel wanted and will make it ourselves if not and C. this is beautiful is a subjective claim and not some new theological idea

CURST: I am a math/computer science major and you could not pay me to read 20 pages of this so Ill just go through overview. If anyone is feeling like they want to self-harm feel free or I might take a look later
thoughts:
-He has a solid grasp on the formula and technicallity of machine learning as least. this is impressive for someone who is self-taught so he is knowlegeable and above-average at least
-Despite what others say, I feel like this idea is new and is at least reasonable which again is impressive
-But, his lack of refrences is a red flag. He also uses very vauge terminology which is not acceptable in a math/data science paper like this. ALthough he does define a universe (contrary to what i have heard) it still feels gimmiky
-He has NO PROOF of concept anywhere besides a 60 second video with NO CODE
HOW????
I believe i get the overview and it seems fine, but it also seems like something which has been done:
take a group of datasetes (universes)
on each on use regression to overfit a lot of models
test those models on other ones, penalizing complexity (he states this is bad- i dont think he provides any proof) and bad models
get the best one at the end
Overall it seems like he is has some idea of what he is talking about-- which is impressive, but it is nowhere near as impressive as he states.
Yeah so these are my ideas: He is decent at what he does, but over complicates things and makes himself seem so much more intelligent and revolutionary than he is.
