Goodbye Message to my first love
It’s been a little over two weeks since we broke up, (Dec 27th would’ve been our 6 month) and after grieving and sitting with my emotions, I’m finally ready to let go and step into the new year. Writing this here is my way of releasing what I never need to send a final goodbye so I can move forward without reopening wounds.
We met on a dating app while I was interning in Chicago, and we connected almost instantly. Things moved quickly, but it felt genuine. You showed me warmth and excitement at a time when I was hesitant to trust something new, and that meant more to me than I ever said out loud.
Despite being in college and you juggling engineering, the military, and band, we found ways to stay connected morning and night texts, calls, video chats, and affection even from a distance. Our long-distance relationship wasn’t easy, but it was real.
Over time, I noticed the distance growing. I knew you struggled with uncertainty about your future and your role in the military, and even as things shifted, I still cared deeply. Some questions remained unanswered, and when we eventually decided to part ways, it was because fear and timing overshadowed what we shared.
Before we said goodbye, I gave you a crocheted duck and turtle small reminders that someone believed in you and cared. I didn’t know then that it would be the last time we’d see each other, but I’ve made peace with that now.
You told me what we had was real, even if the timing wasn’t right. I choose to believe that. I hope you find happiness, safety, and clarity in whatever comes next.
Thank you for coming into my life and reminding me that it’s okay to open my heart, even when the outcome is uncertain. I’m grateful for what we shared, and I’m ready to let it go with kindness.
