How did you meet your best friend?

I (33F) feel like in some ways I have regressed to my 6 yo self! I daydream about meeting a best friend and have an immediate connection with someone that would feel like a soul sister. I know it’s not realistic but I can’t help but longing for that immediate recognition. I think it’s been also because both my parents have best friends they went through hell with (war, immigration etc.). They met them in my birth country and I always feel like I would have found her if only I had grown up where I was born.

While in a refugee center I thought I had found her, but really sadly her father unalived himself and her mother decided to move to a different country. I never heard from her again.

Since then I can’t say I ever found my person. I have loads of friends but nothing that makes me feel fully seen.

It’s funny how decentering men just brought me back to my biggest childhood dream (apart from being really really rich) of finding this connection.

I know that « the man of my dreams » don’t exist but I can’t set aside my dream of having a best friend. And I don’t want to push that dream away, because it’s one of the reasons I keep seeking connections and don’t completely stop socialising lol
