Struggling to come up with character motive for major character.

Salutations!
I am planning out characters for my story, but am struggling to figure out what one of my major characters wants from the general situation. While she is eventually the protagonists love interest, I want that to be secondary for most of the story, she is not there just to fall in love with the protagonist, she accompanies the protagonist for her own objectives.

The issue is, I have this character already almost completely written out, but I need a motive to tie her into the plot, and that motive should not be very villainous or extremely virtuous. So if anyone has advice on coming up with character motivations, that would be very helpful. Thanks in advance!
