Volar Plate Avulsion Fracture

I saw an orthopedic doctor last week regarding a volar plate avulsion fracture fragment at the base of the fifth middle phalanx that measures 2.4mm and shows 2.7mm separation of fracture fragments. The fall that caused this occurred on Halloween night. I kept waiting to see if it would get better on its own but since it wasn't I went to urgent care and after xrays showed a break they sent me to the ortho surgeon. The orthopedic doctor I saw told me that too much time has passed so there's nothing she can do for me now except send me to rehab to regain motion in that finger and then come back to see her in 6 weeks. She said that had I seen her when it happened she would have put me in a splint with my finger bent, not straight. Should I get a second opinion? Will the fragmented bone reattach at some point? Can it be removed? If anyone has any knowledge of this I'd really appreciate some feedback. Thanks
