quartz mechanism?

My mother in law wants to buy me a cartier watch for our wedding. I am between those two: -cartier tank silver but quartz mechanism, brand new 4000 euros -a gold-silver tank cartier from 2005 but automatic and second hand and it is certified but doesn’t have the documents

My brother says that if I am to give this amount of money I should not buy a quartz watch because all high class watches are automatic and this is why a watch is expensive I cannot decide, any help?
