I’m looking for some honest long-term ownership advice, especially from people who have owned Hondas or Toyotas for many years.

For context, I used a Toyota Allion 2015 for 10+ years as a family car. It was driven very roughly. Bad roads, heavy daily use, minimal babying. Despite that, the car never gave me any serious issues. That experience built a lot of trust in Toyota for my family.

Because the Allion became old, I recently moved to a Honda Insight 2019. While I personally like the car, my parents are not very comfortable with it because it’s a hybrid. Their main concern is the hybrid battery and potential long-term repair costs. They strongly prefer a pure petrol car where you just refuel and drive, without worrying about battery degradation.

So now I’m considering the Honda Civic EX 2022 (non-hybrid).

My main questions are:

• Can the Civic EX 2022 handle rough, real-world use over many years?

• How reliable is the 1.5T engine and CVT in the long run?

• Compared to an older Toyota like the Allion, should I expect noticeably more maintenance or unexpected repairs?

• Is this a car that can realistically be kept 8–10 years without major headaches if maintained properly?

I understand that modern cars are more complex and may not be as simple as older Toyotas. I’m okay with regular maintenance, but I want to avoid major out-of-warranty failures that could become very expensive.

I like the Civic a lot for its design, driving feel, and overall quality. I just want to know if choosing it over another Toyota petrol car would be a reasonable decision for long-term family use with rough driving conditions.

Would really appreciate insights from long-term Civic owners, mechanics, or anyone who has experience with Honda’s recent 1.5T models.

Thanks in advance.
