Can someone explain how the camera works in simple words?

I don't need google answers. Just simple answers even a 12 y o could understand. It always fascinated me how a devuce could almost perfectly capture something in front of it, in the same visual colour and save it electronically and print it whenever needed and it always blows my mind every single time.
