Renegades is actually pretty good (my review and wishes)

Discussion

Happy Holidays Guardians! I just wanted to share my honest thoughts on Renegades and give credit where credit is due. I’ve been very critical in the recent past but Renegades has been quite fun for me. Obviously, I can’t compare it to full blown yearly expansions, but what Bungie delivered is actually pretty good.

We got a new activity that’s really fun, a new dungeon, a complete albeit short story campaign and of course cool loot to chase. I loved the 30th Anniversary event and Renegades kind of reminds me of that but better, with more content.

So, to keep it short, I made a list of 5 (now 6) things I like and I could only find 2 things I don’t like and they don’t even have much to do with Renegades but with the game in general. Also some of my personal wishes at the end.

The Positives

1) I like how accessible and fun it is. If it wasn’t for fomo (more on this later), I think Renegades would be a good entry point for new and returning players, way more than Edge of Fate imo.

2) You can basically ignore the Portal. This is a rough one I know. Bungie probably worked on it for months and it didn’t really pay off, but I think Vanguard Alerts are a much better way to bring variety and replayability to the game for all skill levels.

3) I like Arena Ops. I missed 6 players activities and hope to see more of them added to the playlist in the future, even though starting with only 3 revives on Ultimate difficulty is kinda nuts lol.

4) This isn’t new but I want to praise Bungie for the feat system and attunement for dungeon loot. I think feats are designed very well and it’s a much more fun and engaging system than master variants for raids and dungeons.

5) Big props to the weapon and armor designers because the loot both looks and feels great. The Praxic Blade is so fun, there’s also a new Arc rocket pulse and the Ferropotent armor set which is really good and drops from Fireteam Ops. The Heat weapons are so cool. The blaster, the dungeon sniper that can roll with Vorpal and Bait & Switch, the Void sidearm and pulse rifle are great for PvE and PvP and I’m also really enjoying the vent mini-game/mechanic on the dynamic heat weapons.

6) Almost forgot to mention this but the music is great. GG to the composers, they did an amazing job perfectly capturing both Star Wars and Destiny vibes with the soundtrack. It's on Youtube go give it a listen you won't regret it.

The Negatives

1) Fomo has been an ongoing issue and now more than ever with so many good weapons and armor sets (like Mint Retrograde, Yeartide Apex, the Smoke Jumper and Tech-Sec armor sets) available for only a few weeks or months before becoming unattainable. This doesn’t affect me personally but it really sucks for new and returning players. With expansions coming out every 6 months now, I don’t think loot should rotate out so quickly.

2) Ghost Armorer mods shouldn’t just increase the chances of getting the archetype you want, they should guarantee it. This has been such a pain point for me personally and I can’t stress enough how much of a QoL improvement this would be, not just for me, but for many other players as well. I think Skarrow and Llama did the math, but essentially right now there are multiple layers of rng: archetypes, the third stat and the tuning slot, across all armor sets in the game. I’m basically begging Bungie to make this change at this point lol.

Some Wishes

I’ve been loving the sandbox changes for Warlock: buddy builds on Prismatic, Scatter nades with Nothing Manacles or Axion Bolt (underrated imo) with Contraverse on Void, the changes to Stormdancer’s Brace and Winter’s Guile (it's insane with Lightning Surge). There are so many good Warlock builds right now.

Regarding the other classes, I think Hunter definitely needs help when it comes to the neutral game. It feels like Hunter has many exotics that are good for dps, but only dps, and when it comes to neutral play I’m mostly relying on years old builds like Combination Blow or crutching on Woven Mail.

As for Titans… I think it’s time Bungie. It’s time to un-nerf my beloved Heart of Inmost Light. Hold on lol, I’m not saying completely un-nerf it, but make it a strong, viable meta choice again. Bonk hammer is fine, Strand, Arc and Prismatic are all really good, but man...I miss my Hoil Void Titan build from years ago. Void Titan is my favorite Titan subclass and I’d love to see it shine again.

And that’s all. As always, if you took the time to read everything, thank you very, very much.

Wishing everyone a wonderful end to 2025, see you starside!
