Hey! Quick update on **wayscriber**.

It’s a **ZoomIt-like real-time screen annotation overlay for Linux/Wayland** (built with Rust). The flow is: hit a hotkey → draw / zoom / redact / freeze / screenshot on top of your desktop during demos or screenshares → toggle it off when you’re done.

If you last checked it out around **v0.9.4**, the last few releases (**0.9.5 → 0.9.7**) were mostly about making it feel *way* nicer day-to-day: better eraser workflow, presets, toolbar modes, capture fixes, and some performance + GNOME polish.

## Quick overview (what it does)
- Draw live over any window/monitor (freehand, lines/shapes, text, highlighter)
- Zoom + pan for callouts
- Redact regions
- Freeze screen while your apps keep running
- Screenshot capture (full / window / region; file or clipboard)
- Configurable keybinds + a GUI configurator

## What’s new since v0.9.4 - release notes

### v0.9.5 (Dec 22, 2025)
- **Stroke erase option**: erase whole strokes (fast cleanup instead of rubbing tiny bits)
- **Highlight in eraser mode**: visual feedback while erasing
- **Better toolbar tooltips**
- **Eraser shortcut documented**
- Internal refactor / cleanup

### v0.9.6 (Dec 23, 2025)
- **Capture fixes** (screenshot + region): improved overlay rendering + clipboard handoff
- **Exit-after-capture option** (config + CLI overrides)
- **Clipboard captures auto-close by default**, with smarter “only exit on success” behavior
- **Auto-exit logic tightened** (auto-exit is now specifically for clipboard-only captures)
- General app hardening:
  - tray/daemon diagnostics + overlay spawning improved
  - session tool-state restore tightened
  - toolbar layout/render/hitbox consistency improvements

### v0.9.7 (Dec 25, 2025) — the fun one
- **Presets (quick slots)**:
  - default bindings: **1–5** to apply, **Shift+1–5** to save
  - better preset tooltips + clearer empty slots + active slot highlight
  - optional preset “toast” feedback + bigger click targets
  - hover preview for preset colors
- **Toolbar modes**:
  - toolbar layout modes + settings controls
  - per-mode toolbar overrides
  - configurator updated to expose toolbar modes + overrides
- **Eraser accuracy improvements**:
  - stroke-erase sampling was densified (less “misses” when moving fast)
  - added tests around sparse/odd erase paths
- **Configurator UX improvements**:
  - UI settings split into sub-tabs (less scrolling)
  - configurator toasts
  - overlay auto-closes when you open config (less screen clutter)
- **Performance work**:
  - improved toolbar redraws + buffer handling
  - throttled UI animation redraws
  - **configurable UI animation FPS**
- **GNOME polish**:
  - fixed inline tooltips + refresh icons (plus a couple related preset/toolbar tweaks)

## What I’d love feedback on
- Which compositor/desktop are you on (Hyprland/Sway/KDE/GNOME/etc.) and does it behave?
- Do the **preset defaults (1–5 / Shift+1–5)** feel right?

## Quick start
```bash
# One-shot mode (launch when you need it)
wayscriber --active
# Daemon mode (toggle via hotkey)
systemctl --user enable --now wayscriber.service
# then toggle visibility with a keybind that sends SIGUSR1, e.g.:
pkill -SIGUSR1 wayscriber
```
