Will’s coming out needed buildup, not a last-minute scene

Discussion

My issue isn’t the coming out itself, it’s how abruptly it was handled.

Once Vecna takes over Will’s mind, the show should’ve started planting it quietly. Small moments where Will reacts oddly and we don’t know why. Scenes that feel off, without showing us what he’s seeing. Just silence, discomfort, and confusion.

So he starts distancing himself from others. Meanwhile, the others keep trying to include him, asking him to come along for the final push, unaware of what’s going on in his head.

Slowly, it becomes clear Vecna isn’t showing him monsters, but distorted versions of his friends. Laughter that feels cruel. Normal moments replayed with a different meaning. That constant fear of “they know,” even though no one has said anything.

As the world feels like it is about to end, Will realizes something worse: even the apocalypse won’t change this for him. That he needs to let the truth out, that he cannot live with this fear anymore even if there would still be mocking, that he can't let Vecna exploit him for what he is. That’s when the coming out should happen. Not dropped suddenly, but as the release of something that’s been building all season.
