AIO complaining about fireworks on Ring’s neighborhood tab

🏘️ neighbor/local

On Christmas Eve there were fireworks being set off intermittently near my house. I am not 100% sure where they were being set off but I think in a neighborhood right down the street from mine. I could only see them over the tree line but they were loud, so they must have been close. I do live in a state where it is legal to set off the big in the sky fireworks and they mostly were doing them before the noise ordinance hour. They were setting them off not back-to-back, more like randomly across a couple of hours.

My dog is absolutely terrified of fireworks and was a complete mess the whole night. All 60lbs of him were drooling, sitting on top of me, and shaking so bad. Even after they stopped he was still convinced the noise was going to get him and didn’t calm down for a while.

I’ve lived in my house for 3 years and the past 2 Christmas Eves this didn’t happen, so I didn’t know to expect it and didn’t give my dog medication ahead of time (like I do for New Years and 4th of July). I’ve also on and off lived in this state my whole life, so I’m not new to living in a state where fireworks are legal, but I’ve never experienced the intermittent fireworks on Christmas Eve like I did this year.

I posted on the Ring App in the Neighborhood tab saying “Why are there fireworks on Christmas Eve?!? Since when is this a thing? I now have a panicked do, thanks neighbors”

While there were a handful of people supporting it, there were a large number of people ripping me a new one. Saying this happens every year. Saying I am ruining Christmas joy. Telling me to get over it. Telling me I can move if I don’t like it. Telling me I am an outsider and I’m not welcome here. While some were simply “get over it” other were very harsh.

I’ll admit that I was complaining about it, so I did open the gate for the haters, but I truly didn’t expect that level of hate. People are STILL commenting on the post telling me to move ”back north” and to get over it. (I’m guessing that’s an insult, but doesn’t really land since I’m not really from the “north”)

Did I overreact about the fireworks?
