Do you feel like people from other parts of the US are often less direct communicators?

I READ THE RULES

I've had many experiences in other states, especially in the West or the South, where I feel like I have to pay special attention to someone's tone or choice of words and then ask several layers of questions just to get down to what they REALLY mean. Not that this never happens at home, but I've experienced this much more frequently in other states and with people from them.
