My Family Encouraged Competitive ED.
My mother is one of 9 kids and there was 7 sisters. Why did it take me so long to realize it was them that encouraged disordered eating if not full blown disorders? I had aunts that constantly talked about still fitting in Bongo jeans from high school. When criticizing anyone the first thing they went to was if they were fat. Fat to them was anything over a size 10. And that was only acceptable if you had a child. Then they whispered about your fat a**. Their SIL they didn't like was always referred to was "Our brother's fat wife". My mother would always say things to me like, "Your sister is in a 4 now!" or "A few more pounds, you'd have a Barbie waist!" She also bragged on surviving on a bag of salad for 2 days. I had a lollipop head one time and she told everyone how good I looked. My mother is a paraplegic from MS now as well. Mom threw a goddamn fit the last time they weighed her. She was a 150lbs, only has one working hand, will never walk again, but Mom threw a fit when the doctor told her weight loss was unnecessary and not recommended. She'd actually has medication induced insulin resistance. She'd have someone shooting her up with Ozempic if she could. I have no idea why it took me so long to see this. I saw one of my cousins recently and it clicked. She has an inverted stomach that my aunts would be jealous of. She was wearing low waisted Y2K jeans and her arms were spaghetti. It was like WTF? These people were way worse than I ever was.
