Uni dating confusion - Mutual interest but a lack of action [19M]
Hey! I'm in a bit of an odd situation with this girl I met during Intro week of my Uni. TLDR she has shown consistent signs of attraction towards me, but always goes into avoidance when it becomes too much. Then she monitors me until she feels safe enough when the cycle starts all over.
Initially, we didn't have a lot to do with each other. We slowly got closer. I tend to be a bit cautious around these sort of things, but she invited me over, signalling I could. Then she started getting flirty. Light touches, joking around a bit. So I figured it's alright to escalate a bit:
-
First time, I waved her over Monday morning during a lecture. Not the smartest decision as everyone tends to be a bit groggy lol, but shouldn't be that tragic either. This caused her to avoid me for a week, where she'd increasingly observe me until she felt comfortable to reengage
-
Second time, I asked whether she'd like to grab a drink with me from the supermarket (low-pressure) after an exam. Caused the same situation as beforehand. Only difference, this time I was too overwhelmed when she talked again to me so we avoided each other until the next set of exams
-
Last week, she talked to me again (approximately five weeks after the last time). We had exams in the same room, and it felt kinda inevitable since she was tracking me in the mean time. Initially, she was friendly, but set clear boundaries, which held for the first two days. The third day, she got all touchy again, causing her to not go to me the day after. Afterwards, I approached her (she was talking to another person) in a platonic manner, and we ended up leaving together. She gave me a compliment right before we parted.
I don't understand the dissonance between how interested she is (constant over the past four months), and how much she is letting the situation progress (not even hand holding). I am really attracted towards her too, but I'd like to see it go somewhere. And don't know how to approach this or what expectations I should have. Anyone been in a similar situation before or has some advice?
