Are windscreens actually dangerous on canister stoves?

Looking into getting/making a basic foil windscreen for my isobutane pocket rocket style stove. I specifically want to use it for winter when the canister is to cold to work well and I want to reflect back a little bit of heat. I'm seeing some things about canisters overheating and exploding though. Am I being dumb?
