Fresh herbs on sauna rocks- didn't work. What did I do wrong?

I heard of people putting fresh herbs on the sauna rocks to get the aroma in the air. I bought some fresh mint, placed it in a bowl made of tinfoil and put it on the rocks. The mint leafs dried up but didn't fill the room with its scent. What did I do wrong?
