Where to after Trails in the Sky Chapter 1?

I know chapter 2 is coming next year, but I don’t know if I want to wait that long to jump into another game. That said, I don’t think I would enjoy a really old feeling game, regardless of the story. Can I just jump into the Calvard story arc? Will it spoil and ruin a whole bunch of stuff from the next two Liberl games?
