People need to have their payment ready in the checkout line

Ultra Annoyed

I’m convinced there is a specific type of person who enters a grocery store, fills a cart, waits in line, watches every single item get scanned, and then reacts to the total like the cashier just revealed the twist ending of a mystery novel. Suddenly they’re patting their pockets, digging through a purse that looks like it contains the lost archives of human civilization, and acting like the idea of paying for groceries is a brand‑new concept they’re hearing for the first time.

You had time. You had so much time. You had the entire scanning process, which is basically a live countdown to “you will need your card soon.” You could have opened your wallet. You could have pulled out your card. You could have at least located the general area where your money lives. But no. We all get to stand there while you excavate your belongings like you’re searching for a rare artifact that will unlock a hidden temple.

I’m not asking for Olympic‑level efficiency. I’m just asking that we, as a society, acknowledge that paying for groceries is not a surprise event. It’s the one guaranteed moment in the entire shopping experience. Please, for the love of everyone behind you who just wants to go home, be ready.
