Wanting to go abroad as a security engineer
I’ve recently graduated and I’m currently working in a non-traditional software role where I end up building a bit of everything-backend systems, automation, infra tooling, etc. One of the projects I’ve worked on involved USB detection, access control, and encryption on endpoint systems, which pushed me deeper into OS-level and security-adjacent work.
I’ve always been genuinely interested in security systems and cybersecurity, but I’ve never had a clear roadmap on how to transition into the field in a structured way. I’m not coming from a “pure” cybersecurity background, so I’m unsure what skills actually matter long-term and which career path would be the best for me.
I’ve done my fair share of research and what I’ve learnt is that Canada and Germany are pretty good options for security engineers, which is something that I aspire to become.
If anyone here has made a similar transition (especially from general software/infra into security), I’d really appreciate your advice. Happy to DM if that’s easier.
