Made this as a gift for my boyfriend’s sister for Christmas since Lewis is her favorite driver. I’d had this idea for a while for her and thankfully ended up getting her in the family Secret Santa. I’m so proud of how it turned out, but my god was it a trust the process quilt as I made it. I didn’t have too solid a plan with most of the measurements and most of the piecing was done on vibes and caffeine and a lot of “eh a five inch strip of fabric will work there”. Thankfully it came together really nicely.

I wanted to make a race suit quilt honoring his time with Mercedes and his move to Ferrari. I chose his 2024 Mercedes suit as reference for the front and a modified back to his inaugural Ferrari race suit (I didn’t want to do the HP logo that’s all over the Ferraris tbh).

The sponsor/team logos on the front/back ended up being a mix of embroidery and appliqué though my original intention was to appliqué it all. I used my cricut to cut out any logo that was appliquéd and any embroidered logo had to be done in pieces and the pieced together because my embroidery machine has a small work area. I was considering making all the logo svgs myself but ended up finding them on etsy which saved SO much time, though I did have to convert a handful into embroidery files.

Finished measurements are roughly 46”x55”.

It’s not my first F1 quilt project but definitely the most involved since it was a full quilt and not just a wall hanging. Honestly though, I’m now very, very tempted to make a Carlos race suit quilt for myself since he’s my favorite. 😂
