Summer of 42

The movie that Wendy and Danny are watching right before Danny goes up to get his firetruck is “The Summer of ‘42”. Has anyone been able to draw any parallels to the Shining story from this movie? Or did Kubrick just pick it because it had 42 in the title, since 42 shows up so often in the Shining movie.
