The Wilfs should run it back in 2026, and tie it directly to KOC.
It makes complete sense for the Wilfs to essentially run back the offense with McCarthy, and honestly maybe you even keep Brosmer elevated. If there is marked improvement, great! You have an up-and-coming QB and Coaching pair. If it goes poorly again, whether that is QB play or injury, you have an obvious fall-man in KOC. Ride out the dumpster season and actually participate in tank-a-thon for the 2027, much more stacked draft class. Brosmer would certainly lose you games if McCarthy got hurt. I know the Wilfs hate a public embarrassment season and have tried to avoid it at all costs, but if you have a clear fall-guy, maybe they would be more willing to take the chance, and what better time than now?
While this seems a bit cutthroat, it certainly puts KO to the test as a head coach. He has largely been a good offensive minded head coach, although this year as his first real test with a young QB was mostly bad. KO himself said that he was "the quarterback killer", essentially touting his scouting capabilities and his readiness to move off of someone if they don't have it. He was all in on McCarthy and has consistently talked up Brosmer, so he should put his scouting money where his mouth is. He thought JJ had it enough to start in 2025 without any kind of real competition, and the Wilfs should refuse to let him cop-out and go big game hunting for a veteran in 2026.
Obviously no one wants to be on a dumpster team, but this could even be a bargaining chip for keeping Flores around. Tell him he either is the DC for a much improved offensive team if JJ plays better, leading to a likely playoff run provided the defense holds up its end as it has the past few games, or you can tell Flores that if the season does go really poorly, the Head Coach is getting the axe, guaranteeing he isn't on the chopping block, and maybe could even be in line to assume the throne?
I honestly detest the idea of giving the starting QB job to a veteran in 2026. Whether its Aaron Rodgers, Kirk Cousins again, or even Joe Burrow, this team resides in perpetual mediocrity because we can't stand a losing season. I say play McCarthy, and sink or swim. Keep Bromser, and that way if you sink, you sink rapidly down to the bottom of the tank-a-thon and get a shot at a much more improved draft class in 2027. All this also has firing Kwesi this year baked into the cake.
