Trapped by consumption
Im all about avoiding consumerism in most capacities, avoiding new things, living low impact, etc… i want to, and believe I could do fairly well with this solo. I even have a pipedream of living “off grid”.
Recently, especially with the holidays, I’m particularly disturbed by participation in the consumerism and environmental disregard of our society, as I imagine many here are. due to family situation, and without going into details, this lifestyle is largely inescapable while still being present for those I love. I can make small individual efforts, but then be complicit in a typical US consumerist lifestyle whether I like it or not.
Any advice on how to frame my mind around this issue? Just do my best and go about life? Advocate on local and societal level? See wins rather than “losses”? Does this resonate with anyone else here?
