Very shook by situation at parish. (Trigger warning)
Some background, I'm a young male convert who's been going to a parish for a couple years.
A few months ago another man in his late 20's started visiting our parish, I noticed that he was spending a lot of time with the young girls at our church during coffee hour and later find out from him that he was kicked out of his last parish for sleeping with an under 18 girl, but no legal action was taken as the legal age of consent was 16 in this Jurisdiction (in our area it's 18).
My priest was already aware of this from talking with his last priest and would "keep an eye on it", however no one at our parish was notified that we basically had a sex offender in our house (who is also, a very charming, charismatic guy)
I reported him to the priest for attempting to make plans with a girl who had just turned 18, this caused a series of events that caused me, my godfather and the would-be predator to have a sitdown, where he explained that he wasn't interested in any of the women at our parish, but that he was actively searching for a wife outside of it, this is when I found out from him that he'd victimized a girl.
I was encouraged by people in the know to be charitable and not to judge, which is very difficult for me as I've been sexually abused (I have to take PTSD meds everyday) in the past and feel extremely uncomfortable around the man, as well as things he would say like complaining about the priest not letting him date girls under 25, or acting like he was an innocent victim of persecution who was slandered at his last parish by his "ex", or making excuses that what he did was no big deal as the girl wasn't in high school and was "mature for her age".
I got the feeling that he was actively trying to ingratiate himself to me (which was later confirmed when a friend told me that he asked her how to get me to like him).
One day I see him hugging my friend and I yell at him to stay away from her and call him a rapist in front of everyone, which caused my godfather and some other men to drag me outside and yell at me, what struck me isn't that they were angry at me, but rather that they couldn't care less about what this man had done in the past.
I ended up driving home and haven't been back to church since other than to report the guy (and some other things) to the man in charge of youth protection (who was completely unaware of all this)
When talking to my priest through text and on the phone I've been shocked by how he's treating the whole situation, saying to me "It's not rape because it wasn't illegal there" "How would you feel if someone judged you based on one thing from your past?" "Everyone is welcome here" "Revenge isn't the answer" "I've seen you talking to minors during coffee hour too" I've even been accused of jealousy by some.
People were also angry that I told a 12 year old girl to be careful as not all the men at our church were good people, my priest accused me of "traumatizing" her when he was the one who allowed a predator in the church in the first place. Not only is he allowed in, we're also not supposed to give girls and women heads up because that's "spreading rumor and slander".
All of this happened about 3 weeks ago and I'm still very shook, my friends and godfamily (who've told me they've loved me in the past) haven't reached out and people seem to be treating me like I'm some paranoid jerk, this whole situation has really destroyed my trust in my priest and the church at large, at every step of the way people were downplaying this and saying it's not rape, our church also has a lot of high school aged girls and some young adult women that I'm terrified of allowing in the same circles with this man.
This isn't even the first time there's been questionable stuff, there was another man about 28 years old who would drive a high school girl to church in his sports car and hang out with her alone a lot outside church (my priest put a stop to this), as well as a 40 year old guy who would make gross comments about the 15-20 year olds.
I don't know what to do anymore as all of my trust, and my social circle has been destroyed but I still believe in Christ.
