iZotope Mixing and Mastering (Ozone 12 and Neutron 5) - using as a way of learning
Hey people! I've been producing for about 3 years now and I'm really happy with a lot of my ideas, but I've still got a long ways to go with the final touches and cleanliness of my tunes.
I've been looking into iZotope's mixing and mastering bundle (Ozone 12 and Neutron 5), and it seems really handy.
My current understanding is that neutron 5 is best used for bringing out some shine and polish on individual channels, and ozone 12 is best slapped on the master to bring everything together and improve overall balance. Here's my question for you all:
As someone who is still learning how to be better at mixing and mastering, would access to these devices help or hinder my ability to learn how to do these things on my own?
I know there's so much nuance to that question and at the end of the day, it's going to be different on a person-to-person basis, depending on how motivated the individual is to learn the skills themselves... But I want to know how much of these programs is truly a black box that just makes things sound better, and how much could be useful for seeing and learning the patterns that go into mixing and mastering. Were any aspects of the tools designed to be educational, or are they simply built for performance?
I suppose I want to treat the plugins as a way to receive some "expert advice" that I can expand upon and extrapolate how to do these things myself without needing to ask a mastering engineer to look at each and every track.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts!
