Ruling On Having Light When Sleeping (No Dark Rooms)
Assalamualaikum,
I still live with my parents, and one thing they make sure to do in all of our rooms is ensure that there is some kind of light. Because of this, they added a night light to my room. They said that it is Islamic to have a light in your room to prevent jinn or Shaytan from attacking me while I am sleeping.
However, I have trouble sleeping in a room that has light, and it prevents me from getting good sleep, which leads to migraines. Yet they will not listen to me when I explain this, claiming that not having a light would be considered un-Islamic. From the research I have done, I have not seen anything that states you are obligated to have a light; rather, I have seen the opposite.
I cannot tell if I am missing something here or if this is a Hanafi-specific view. JazakAllah for any guidance on this matter.
