Lessons from building a voice-cloning AI for LinkedIn (shipped today)
Finally shipped after a few months of building. Wanted to share what I learned.
The problem I was trying to solve: I kept using ChatGPT for LinkedIn posts but spent more time editing the output to sound like me than just writing from scratch.
What I built: An AI that analyzes your actual writing (hooks, vocabulary, sentence patterns) and builds a voice profile. Then generates content in YOUR style.
Lessons learned:
- Voice analysis is harder than I expected. Had to go beyond just "tone" - people have specific vocabulary patterns, hook styles, formatting quirks
- Claude API worked better than GPT for this use case
- Supabase + Next.js made auth and DB stupid easy
- Biggest challenge: making the onboarding smooth when users don't have existing posts to analyze
Would love feedback on the approach or if anyone's tackled similar problems.
