My boyfriend lost interest in sex.
Hi everyone, I’m looking for some outside perspective because I don’t want to overthink this. My boyfriend (32M) and I (29F) are in a long-distance relationship. We live in two different countries because I moved for my master’s, but distance hasn’t really been an issue for us. We fly to see each other about 5 days a month or for 8–10 days every couple of months, and we’ve been together for more than a year. We talk a lot — he calls 3-4 times a day when possible, texting, sending reels, etc. We’ve met each other’s families and friends, and there’s trust on both sides. And whenever we met in person, we always had amazing sex.
This visit has been different. I came home for the holidays, and over about 11 days together, we haven’t had sex. We tried twice in the beginning, but he couldn’t maintain an erection midway. This is the same man who used to get turned on whenever he saw me, no matter where. I asked him about it yesterday and he mentioned it could be due to snus (nicotine), drinking alcohol sometimes, stress, Ozempic, or age — although he’s only 32 and isn’t doing anything differently from earlier in our relationship. Sometimes he does get erections and is touchy, but then he says “later,” and we just forget.
What confuses me is that he’s extremely affectionate otherwise. Obsessive kissing, cuddling day and night, touching, following me around just to kiss me, picking me up, taking me out on dates and telling me I’m beautiful all the time. He can’t go a minute without physical closeness. So I don’t feel emotionally or physically rejected, just confused about the lack of sex. I’m trying not to pressure him or make it a big deal, but since this hasn’t happened before, it’s new for me. When I tried mentioning it once, he seemed embarrassed so I stopped. Has anyone experienced something similar? Does this sound more like anxiety or a physical issue or is it loss of attraction? I’d really appreciate honest perspectives.
