EECS 441 Attendance and Participation Grading

I read the syllabus for EECS 441 and Soloway sounds like a prick I don't want to deal with his bs I'm too old for to deal with that. His ratemyprofessor doesn't help him either is attendance and participation graded or is it optional I'm aware there's like specific lectures I will need to go to when there's like presentations and stuff.
