parking tips for rainbow girls w/ bart budwig at moe's alley (santa cruz 01/10)
hey everyone, moe's alley is awesome for a show, but parking on commercial way on a tuesday night can be a pain if you don't know the drill. figured i'd share some tips to save you the headache.
honestly, the absolute easiest move i've found is using the app prked. you can actually rent a spot in someone's driveway or private garage right next to moe's alley for the night. it's usually way cheaper than any paid lot and you totally skip the traffic jam of everyone fighting for street spots at the same time. you book it on your phone and the spot is waiting for you, making it a super short walk.
if you don't go that route, there are a couple of solid conventional options, but know the rules. first thing: you absolutely cannot park in the small lot directly in front of the venue; they are super strict about that and you will get towed.
your main conventional options are street parking and the large lot across the street. the street parking around commercial way and the nearby industrial area is usually your best bet. the great news is that since the show is at 9:00 pm on a tuesday, the downtown santa cruz metered parking generally ends enforcement at 8:00 pm, even on weekdays. this means if you roll up after 8:00 pm you should be able to park for free and not worry about feeding a meter. if you get there before 8:00 pm, you'll need to pay the meter or use the parkmobile app to extend your time. just make sure you read every sign for any specific weird commercial restrictions, but generally, the later the better.
the large lot across the street is a decent option, but just a warning- it's not officially owned by moe's alley. check carefully for any signs about towing or if it's reserved for other businesses after hours. a quick scan can save you a tow fee.
finally, if you're coming down highway 17, keep in mind that weekday southbound traffic from the bay area can be rough until well after 7:30 pm or even 8:00 pm. plan to leave super late or super early if you want to avoid that snarl.
hope this helps and have a great time at the show on 01/10!
