CMV: The situation with Greenland is one of Europe’s own making

European leaders like Stammer, Metz, and Mcaron have been quick to provide cover for the trump admin on its illegal kidnapping of Nicolas Maduro. I’m under no impression that the rules based order has ever existed, but the illusion of it provided a small sense of safety. By doing all these mental gymnastics to try and justify it they’ve basically given a green light for trump to do whatever it is he wants without any pushback. The reason they were so comfortable with this is because they never expected that level of impunity to be directed at them like it now is w the Greenland situation. When it comes to Greenland the Europeans keep trying to pushback using arguments to do with international law and that appeal to the rules based order but they’ve literally helped blow that up with their defense of what happened in Venezuela. When the administration started making threats on Greenland last year like most people I dismissed as rhetoric but now not so much, and to be honest if trump does go to take Greenland what will they do? As Stephen Miller is telling us their view is one where might makes right and The Europeans have effectively outsourced their defense to the US for past number of decades and a lot of Europe’s defense spending is focused on Ukraine at the moment. The situation that Europe therefore finds itself in right now is a direct result of the willingness of European leaders to do anything to satisfy Donald trump instead of having a backbone and pushing back.
