I pretend I understand every Vietnamese slang, but 50% of the time I have no clue what’s being said.
I really need to get this off my chest. Whenever people around me start throwing Vietnamese slang into conversations, I automatically switch into “professional nodding” mode. I smile, laugh at the right moments, and reply with things like “dạ,” “đúng rồi,” or “trời ơi” even though, deep down, my brain is working overtime trying to guess what they actually meant. Sometimes I only understand the conversation five minutes later. Other times, I realize way too late that I just agreed to something I didn’t fully understand. It’s awkward, it’s funny, and it’s slightly terrifying… but somehow I keep doing it anyway 😅
