Should I invest more?
Hi everyone,
I am getting hired in a new position at my company and they have the following info on retirement savings:
- I contribute 4%, they contribute 15%
- I can contribute additional 3%, which will up their contribution 3% (so in total 7% and 18%)
I have a 457 and 401k. I am assuming this above is just for the 457, but I'll be double checking with payroll Thursday. The 401k has so far been out of my control as to what is invested, and i'll have to go over that with payroll as well. I am doing Roth 457 and there is no way for me to change the 401k to roth on my mobile account.
I am wondering, since I am doing 25% with the above info, should I still contribute to Roth IRA? I was planning to do 262.50/mo to Roth IRA since I did not know until December that I've had these accounts since August. I have done the math (won't get paid for a while since the pay period just happened) and will be able to handle all my expenses, the Roth IRA, and have around 300-500 leftover. I'm unsure if I should use that 262 for saving for a house or put in Roth IRA.
Info about me:
- Age 27½
- (New) Income: 60,500
- Fully funded emergency fund
- 0 debt
- Rent: 806/mo
- Total retirement: 17,000
- Previous income: 38,000
- House savings: 21,500/35,000
I know that personal finance is purely personal, but I want to hear people's takes so I can consider new viewpoints and come to a decision. If I contribute to Roth IRA, I get a 2% match for a few months.
