Unpopular opinion- Vietnamese food sucks

Discussion/Thảo luận

I know I will ruffle some feathers with this one but the food in Vietnam was such a huge letdown!! For one, the restaurants are extremely unhygienic. Hand hygiene is virtually nonexistent. Just one example and this was at a Michelin recognized pho spot in HCMC. The waiter went to the bathroom washed his hands then proceeded to sneeze and blow his nose directly into his hands and then go out to serve food. On our food tour our guide was wiping down all the chopsticks and spoons for us with a dry paper towel (as if that would kill any bacteria). The bathrooms also are always stinky and dirty. Besides the unhygienic conditions, I found the food to be lacking flavor and most dishes are very similar in that they use all the same herbs and sauces. Meat is also of poor quality compared to anywhere else in the world. And we have traveled all over. Great country, but disappointing food overall.
