What's your definition of being a provider?

I've (30ish f) have been thinking about this lately, I see comments here and there from men talking about the expectation placed upon them to be providers. Discussions ranging from feeling overwhelmed by that pressure to feeling unsure avout how they fit into a world where women can provide for themselves.

It sounds like there is a limited view of what it is to be a provider. Bringing in the money, protecting the family..

For context, I'd say I'm in a unique situation with my husband. He had a spinal injury a few years ago so I over took him as the bread winner. Since then we have been very successful and have both retired from the work force. The way he provides for me has shifted from that more rigid definition and it's something I have been thinking about lately.

I see alot of young men struggling with how they should be showing up in relationships when they have been raised and socialised to fulfil a role that doesn't necessarily look the way they thought it would. With societal changes and "traditional" roles changing, I wonder if it's worth broadening our idea of what it means to be a provider and I'm interested to hear what you think.
