Anyone here experimenting with episodic / serialized storytelling as an indie filmmaker?
Lately I’ve been thinking about sustainability in filmmaking from a very practical, personal angle.
Traditional paths feel increasingly fragile — long gaps between projects, heavy dependence on festivals, studios, or platforms, and a lot of time spent waiting rather than making.
I’ve been wondering whether episodic or serialized storytelling — smaller, ongoing narrative work released over time — might offer a different kind of stability for some of us. Not in a “viral content” sense, but as an ongoing creative practice that can build momentum and a relationship with an audience.
I’m not coming at this with a fixed opinion — more with questions:
• Have any of you experimented with episodic or serialized storytelling outside of traditional studio systems?
• Did it change anything about how sustainable your work felt (creatively or financially)?
• Or did it introduce new problems that made it just as unstable as other paths?
I’d really value hearing real experiences — even small or incomplete ones — rather than success stories only.
