Is it time for AEW to stop double-strapping people?
Just a discussion I'm hoping to have - no hostility or dragging wrestlers down please.
Between AEW and ROH there's something like 20 titles in AEW, and there's a huge roster of talent, but over the last year a number of members of that talent pool have had two or three titles at a time when there is so much space for some options. Just as examples (not comprehensive):
Willow currently has two belts
Samoa Joe had two belts (one he almost never defended)
Sammy and Dustin had two sets of tag titles
Mercedes had the TBS and ROH TV title
Okada was double-fisting (Although that one was an intentional but failed experiment)
I'm just speaking to my personal taste, I feel like multiple titles on one person too often risks one title being neglected or ignored, and possibly cheapened if the champion loses defending the other, as well, it takes a potential spot away from someone who probably doesn't need the double rub. I also don't feel like a lot of the double champs 'needed' to be double champs for their stories to progress.
What is everyone's thoughts?
