Growing Hair Tips

Hello, I'm an asian guy with straight hair. I'm trying to grow my hair out, ChatGPT is telling me to comb my hair forward so it will teach my hair to stay down and let gravity do the work. My end goal is to have a 60/40 hair (somewhat like Kpop guys). I;m a bit confused because eventually I would need to push my hair backwards - which I can't right now because it would stick up. Am I doing this correctly?
