Valentine’s Day was drawing closer. We had always said we would celebrate the anniversary of the first time we met with a night of romance.

It would be our first time together.

My girlfriend was shy, nervous, unaccustomed to giving herself over so completely. She always wanted to take things slowly, to ease into it on her own terms.

I loved her and so, patience came easily.

That was until her twin began to linger.

She seemed to notice me more than she ever had before, her glances lasting a little longer, her smiles were more common. Maybe she had picked up on her sister’s prudishness.

Maybe she found it amusing.

Unlike my girlfriend, she wasn’t shy. She was confident and experienced. Adventurous. Her reputation preceded her even.

I’ll admit it: when my girlfriend texted me, inviting me over, I felt a jolt of surprise.

Her parents were out. She was alone.

She said she wanted me. Needed me.

More than ever.

“Valentine’s Day is too far away!” She said.

The excitement was undeniable, but one question refused to leave my mind.

Was it really her?

Her sister had always been mischievous. And if I found one twin attractive, wasn’t it only logical that the other might feel the same?

I hated myself for noticing how alluring she could be at times.

But if I was here and alone with her twin, then where was my girlfriend?

It’s hard to think clearly when a hand is already guiding you down the hallway, careful not to lead you into the wrong bedroom and reveal the truth.

None of this felt like her. Not the urgency. Not the hunger.

The doubts lingered, echoing in the back of my mind, but the sensation was too intoxicating to refuse.

And as I gave in, one thought kept repeating itself.

Am I really with my girlfriend?

Or have I been fooled by her twin?

[M4F] My girlfriend’s identical twin is known to be the more adventurous and mischievous of the two. But is she as deceptive?
