ELI5 What makes someone vomit…

What causes the body’s physiological response to vomit when it sees something gory? Why THAT response? In TV shows and movies, there’s always a rookie cop puking in the bushes when they see a body. Got me thinking, why tho?? What possible prehistoric benefit is there to a human to release your stomach contents?
