What profession should I take if I'm interested in psychology/psychiatry/healthcare?
Hello! I'm currently in my 4th year, and I'm also new to Reddit --- I just wanted to ask what's a more stable job to pursue in the Philippines. This probably isn't a suitable place to post this, but I need a guide. Most of the groups or whatever it's called have certain requirements to post (like karma points, and how old my account is) btu because I'm too impatient for that, I resorted to this. If this caught your interest, thank you :)
As far as I'm aware, Psychiatry isn't something Filipinos turn to mostly because they can't afford it, and I'm also looking for a stable job where I'm kind of guaranteed that I'll earn well. My family and relatives are only familiar with specific professions for medicine, and psychiatry isn't something that comes to mind when taking a job for them. So, every time they bring up the topic about my future, they're unsure because they're unfamiliar with it.
I've done research since last year, but I'm rethinking things. I know there'll be some point in time where psychiatrists will be in demand in the future for Filipinos, but as of right now --- I need something that's sure. That's fixed or definite, if that makes sense.
I want to help people. Whether it's through words, actions, things like games or books (I've also been writing something of my own hehe) So, psychiatry was the first that came to mind before. My family and I know a very limited amount of people that experienced taking the psychology degree, but most of them ended up being OFW workers (Although I'm not too sure either) I think it just depends on how the person uses that degree to their advantage. But hearing that somewhat discouraged me at the same time, because it means I have to think about it thoroughly.
Although I searched, and asked my previous class adviser for advice, I'm not too sure because I only gathered small information about it which makes me question what to do for college, or the course I'm planning to take.. Especially the school </3. It's like I'm gathering crumbs on a big plate.
I searched for alternatives, and here's what I found:
* Neurologist
* Neuropsychiatrist
* Forensic Psychologist
* Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
My first option is Neuropsychiatrist because it aligns with what I'm looking for --- the salary, its stability, and it's not ambiguous.. Unlike psychiatry where people perceive it differently because it's usually related to "mentally unstable people" (in the derogatory sense), and it's not well-recognized in the Philippines either.
Thank you for taking your time to read this :D. Originally I was gonna post this on r/pinoymed but since this account is freshly made, I decided to post it here instead --- hoping it'll reach the right people. I'm new to Reddit so I dont know how to earn Karma points,. Besides that I don't have that much free time to scroll on reddit and comment stuff.
Anyways, thank you!
