Have Strong Disagreement with Somatic Symptom Disorder Diagnosis and Want to Rant
I had an eval from a new psych doctor who claimed I have Somatic Symptom Disorder. I strongly disagree with the diagnosis since I have chronicled my medical symptoms for many years and can explain how certain drugs have caused side effects, how certain issues like a concussion I had a few years ago affect everything, how it actually improved last year (why if I had Somatic Symptom Disorder would I acknowledge an improvement over the previous year, that makes no fucking sense).
What I need is medication to cure my word stumbling issues permanently as in I want to 100% be on my full A-game no matter what and I want to mitigate whatever is causing abnormal cognitive side effects in supplements to the point where it is disruptive to take them (e.g. Vitamin D) even though I do see a benefit ironically enough when I am off of it but my levels are higher.
Someone CMV that Somatic Symptom Disorder isn't just a method for psych doctors to gaslight patients because they have unusual symptoms that aren't conveniently able to be treated. If I had Somatic Symptom Disorder, #1: just taking a pill would cure everything and #2: again I would not have noticed an improvement last year.
I have posted in multiple subreddits over the years about this (check my history, I make it public) and I feel telling me it is just anxiety masquerading as symptoms isn't helping. It's not just anxiety and I told the psych doctor I significantly disagree with her assessment.
I am making this post because I want to be educated. What if I 100% listen to her and nothing changes? Is it all on me? How can a counselor (which she recommended) help me when I am uncontrollably stumbling over my words and the power of positive thinking does nothing, analyzing my thoughts does nothing? I just don't get it.
