Neptunus Champion
"Praise be to the Emperor's Chosen, his Champion sent in times of need. Read carefully the signs of his coming, bestow upon him all that he desires. Follow closely at his heels as he enters battle and the slaying begins. Mourn his passing when his task is done and then avenge his fall with righteous fury. For he is our morning star, the first glimmer of a new dawn against the darkness." — Extract from the Apocrypha of Eons, Verse XVIII
A Neptunus Champion is amongst the mightiest and most feared Primaris Space Marine warriors within the ranks of the Son’s of Neptune. His skill at arms and armaments are the equal of anything a xenos or enemies of the Imperium can bring forth.
Comparable to an Emperor's Champion, these mighty warriors fear nothing that the galaxy may throw at them, seeking out and destroying the mightiest of foes in personal combat.
Those battle-brothers that perform mighty feats of arms may be elevated to this esteemed position by a harbormaster in recognition of their deeds, though they are most commonly elevated to the status of a Champion based on their longstanding courage and valor in the face of inevitable death, having emerged victorious time and time again. The Champion embodies the Chapter's intense faith and martial prowess, serving as a living symbol of the Emperor's divine protection and will on the battlefield. Upon being chosen, the Space Marine is granted ancient and powerful relics from the Chapter's armory, which are specifically stored for this role.
They operate with the characteristic silence, coordinating over encrypted vox networks and striking with speed and precision to decapitate enemy leadership.
The primary duty of a Champion is to serve as a bodyguard to a high-ranking officer (like a Captain or Chapter Master) and to challenge enemy champions or characters to ritual single combat.
In essence, a Champion embodies the chapter's core philosophy: a silent, brutal, and highly efficient predator that relies on shock assault, close-quarters combat with chain weaponry, and a complete disregard for conventional notions of honor to achieve victory and ensure the chapter's survival through close quarter battle.
