Built a small utility for myself, easy finance calculator with much needed nifty features
Sharing a project I’ve been working on and thoughts on it
I think we’ve reached a point in the SaaS world where everyone feels like if an app isn't charging $29/month and scaling to the moon, that it is not worth creating.
I built CompoundChart.com because I was annoyed that I couldn't find a "neat" investment calculator that handled multiple investment vehicles and standard deviation/volatility. Everything out there was either a spreadsheet or a lead-gen form for a bank.
- The Goal isn't "Oodles of Money": I’m perfectly happy if this just becomes a nifty tool people actually use.
- Sustainability: Ads don't even work on the site yet, but the goal is just to eventually have a small amount of non-intrusive ads that cover the hosting costs. If it breaks even and helps a few thousand people visualize their retirement or fantasies, that’s a win for me.
It’s built with next.js and vercel for easy CI/CD with a mongo db integration.
Question for the Community: Have you guys also gone down the route of creating a utility that just aims to break-even
Also, if you’re a math/finance nerd, I’d love some feedback on the calculator itself.
