A few nuggets before applying! Some wisdom from an "Unc"

Advice

I am 30 and am going back to college (med school) after a long time in the real world. My classmates are considerably younger (they call me "unc") and it has given me an interesting chance to see college life and how it's changed! A few pieces of advice:

  1. College is expensive, getting more expensive, and wages are not keeping up. There is nothing wrong with CC and no one really cares if you did community once you're looking for jobs. I was lucky to have a good scholarship but many of my friends are still paying off loans nearly 10 years later. If you don't need to do loans, good for you! The college life is great - go enjoy it.

  2. If you have absolutely no idea what you want to, you can work a year or two or do community college

  3. The world has changed considerably in the last 5 years and will continue to change rapidly. Many jobs may not exist by the time you graduate; do your research and try and be realistic.

  4. Take a breath, "touch grass", and find something that you would be willing to give your life for. There is a lot of apathy and nihilism out there, and I know the world can be shitty but there is always light.

TL;DR - community college is great, money is harder to come by than you think, and the world is changing fast so do your research on jobs!
