Job Interview Soon, but I’m self taught
Pretty much what the title says. I have a job interview in a few days and it’s to be a “Videographer” (that also edits and uploads to Instagram and YouTube). It’s for a small local business.
Every job I have worked (starting in 2021) has given me a secondary job of “social media manager” as I have two degrees in film. There weren’t usually too many rules beyond “don’t post anything offensive”. I had a lot of free will to be as creative as possible, and it was fun! But now that i’m looking for higher end jobs, I’m getting a bit nervous that I can’t fake it till I make it. I know people care a lot about “analytics” and the business end of things, and that’s not something I’m familiar with.
I’ve always just been the creative side of things- I come up with silly ideas, film them, edit them quickly and then upload them (by hand) on a semi regular schedule. I know there’s more I could be doing but I don’t even know where to start. I know there’s ways I can schedule posts but I don’t know what they are. I don’t really know what I’m doing with analytics or how to “boost” things, all the places I worked for just said “post things so we have stuff online”. I don’t know that this place is any different than that, but I want to learn as much as I can. Even learning a tiny bit before the interview I think can really boost my confidence.
I’m planning to take some business classes soon, as I want to learn more about marketing for freelance video/photo work, and also to try to keep getting jobs like this (but with bigger and bigger companies). Is there any kind of general advice about how to understand more about the business side of things?
